A Glimpse into Solo Post-Rock

Sketches, Notes, & Motifs for the composition ‘Things Unseen’ by Johnny Newman

‘Waiting on the Lord’ is just about 3/5ths finished in terms of composition.  While having to rely on only one person for performance (myself) – it requires a lot of dexterity to put up a wall of seamless sound in terms of ambient & post rock composition. Just as much as dexterity – it also takes a lot of planning –

I spend an awful lot of time after writing a guitar line transcribing it – analyzing it harmonically – and then discovering a counter melody that I can loop for a building, climax point, or.. what I like to think of as…’the meaning of the composition‘ – the culmination of all ideas I’ve introduced.  Besides the fact that the elements do have to coincide with each other – it’s important for the functionality & shape of the composition as well.

More soon…
